A slotted spring pin is a headless hollow cylindrical tube having a longitudinal slot down the entire length with chamfered or round ends to aid installation. A spring pin (also called tension pin or roll pin) is a mechanical fastener that secures the position of two or more parts of a machine relative to each other. Spring pins have a body diameter which is larger than the hole diameter, and a chamfer on either one or both ends to facilitate starting the pin into the hole.
Spring pins may also be used to join or locate components with pins inserted through concentric holes in the components. This approach can be used on parts of any shape, including shafts and plates.
HOW TO USE
Align the spring pin with the appropriately sized drilled hole. Tap the end of the pin extending beyond the jaws of the pliers with a ball-peen hammer. Release your grip with the needle-nose pliers when the spring pin sits tightly in the hole. Set the tapered end of the spring pin set on the end of the spring pin.
